Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has said that all measures would be adopted to take Nepal out of the money laundering grey list.

He said this during a discussion on the action plan of the International Cooperation Review Group (ICRG) of the Asia Pacific Group of Money Laundering held in coordination with the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday.

Finance Minister Dr. Wagle expressed his commitment to take Nepal out of the ‘grey list’ by putting all his efforts.

He said the government under the leadership of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was striving to take a stride in the development of the country by establishing good governance. “This is one of the main messages of the people’s mandate,” he said.

“The current grey list situation is the result of 30 years of misgovernance,” he said. He expressed the view that the works carried out in terms of good governance after the formation of the new government were felt by all.

He said that the government agencies are regularly working on the immediate and regular initiatives to take Nepal out of the grey list of money laundering and it is also being evaluated. He also said that the situation in Nepal regarding the greylist index is very different from the last review period and now.

On the occasion, Deputy Executive Secretary of APG David Shannon said that there is still a lot of work to be done to get Nepal out of the grey list.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Finance, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Nepal Rastra Bank and other agencies. The FATF had placed Nepal in the grey list for two years on February 22, 2081. Nepal has committed to a 15-point ICRG action plan to get out of the list and is working accordingly.
