Kathmandu. The contribution of education sector to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is estimated to be 9.22 percent in the current fiscal year. Last year, it was 8.86 per cent.
Finance Minister Dr. According to the Economic Survey for the fiscal year 2082/83 presented by Swarnim Wagle in the House today, the sector’s contribution to the GDP in the last decade has been 8 percent annually on an average and a growth rate of 4.16 percent.
According to the survey, the total value added of the education sector is expected to increase by 1.50 percent in the current fiscal year due to the decrease in the number of students in the government educational institutions, the decrease in the number of students in the private educational institutions and the decrease in expenditure in the education sector. The total value added of the sector had increased by 2.36 percent in the last fiscal year.
According to the survey, the total enrollment rate at the school level has increased. In the academic calendar 2082, the total enrollment rate of basic level (classes 1-8) has reached 136.2 percent and the secondary level (classes 9-12) has reached 85.7 percent. In the last academic year, such enrollment rate was 124.8 percent and 80.6 percent respectively.
In the academic calendar 2082 BS, 104 more schools were added, making the total number of schools to 35,951. Of them, 71.27 per cent are of community schools, 24.87 per cent of institutional schools and 3.86 per cent of traditional and religious schools. According to the statistics, 50.85 percent of the community schools have less than 100 students. 0.47 percent of schools have less than 2,000 students.
Increasing migration in urban areas and decrease in birth rate have contributed to the decreasing number of students in schools in rural areas. The schools with low number of students are being mapped and adjusted.
