Customs duty on gold cut by 2%

. The government has changed the tax structure related to gold import and transactions. In which the government has amended the customs rate and various fees.

According to the new provision, the customs duty rate has been set at 10 percent on gold.TAG_OPEN_div_16 Earlier, the customs duty on gold was 10 percent. The government has added additional 10 percent customs duty to this 10 percent. Now, the customs duty on gold has reached 20 percent.

Similarly, the 2 percent luxury tax on gold and silver jewelry and articles has been scrapped.TAG_OPEN_div_14 In the current fiscal year, the government has imposed a 2 percent luxury tax on gold and silver jewelry and a 13 percent tax on diamond jewelry. The tax levied on diamonds remains unchanged.

Meanwhile, the government has proposed to levy an additional 1.5 percent ‘skill promotion fee’ on gold trading through the Finance Bill for the coming fiscal year.TAG_OPEN_div_12 The said duty will be applicable on the sale of gold, silver, their jewelry and other goods to consumers in Nepal.

According to the Finance Bill, the administration and implementation of the skill promotion fee shall be as determined by the Inland Revenue Department.TAG_OPEN_div_10
