The government has abolished excise duty on 360 items, increasing it on dozens of items including junk food and juices

. The government has made changes in various tax rates through the Finance Bill 2083. Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has said that excise duty on 360 different items has been scrapped through the budget for the coming fiscal year 2083/84.
The rates of excise duty on liquor and tobacco have been increased.TAG_OPEN_div_35 Similarly, excise duty has also been increased on junk food, paints, juices and other items. As per the bill, excise duty on jaggery and sweet potato has been increased from Rs 138 per quintal to Rs 140. Similarly, excise duty on sugarcane has been increased from Rs 110 per quintal to Rs 115 per quintal.
The excise duty on chewing gum, cocoa powder, chocolates without sugar or sweeteners, and other cocoa contaminants has been increased from 15 to 21.TAG_OPEN_div_33 Excise duty on spaghetti, macaroni and pasta has been increased from Rs 20 per kg to Rs 35.
The excise duty on bread, cocoa-coated bread, crepes bread, ginger bread, sweet biscuits, cakes, cookies, pastries, waffles and bakeries has been increased from Rs 15 to Rs 20.TAG_OPEN_div_31 The excise duty on items such as crisps, kurmure, lays and cheeseball has been increased to Rs 75 per kg from Rs 20 per kg earlier. Earlier, excise duty on potato chips was Rs 18 per kg, which has been increased to Rs 30 per kg.

Excise duty on champagne, seri, mid and peri cider has been reduced from Rs 516 per litre to Rs 490 per litre. Similarly, excise duty on herbal mixed liquor and cocktails with more than 17 per cent alcohol has been increased to Rs 516 per cent.
