Kathmandu. Deepak Kunwar, president of Nepal Land and Housing Development Association, urged the government to provide necessary facilitation to make the real estate business vibrant.
Addressing the 19th annual general meeting of Nepal Land and Housing Development Association here today, Minister Khatiwada drew attention on the existing challenges in the real estate sector and the policy-level steps that the government should take.
Kunwar said the ambiguity of the government’s policies has brought the ‘real estate entrepreneurs’ into the union, which has made it difficult for the general public to access housing. “The businessmen are on the verge of shutting down their business due to unclear policies, which is a dangerous situation for the country’s economic prosperity,” he said.
On the occasion, Chairman Kunwar demanded not enforcing land ceiling on real estate companies for the development of well-managed settlements and removal of legal obstacles in the sale of constructed houses and apartments.
He demanded long-term solution to the temporary facilitation seen in land plotting, allowing the companies with planning license to operate land pooling and house pooling programs by providing facilities at par with the Town Development Committee, issuing Integrated Urban Development Act and land code and implementing an electronic system at the Land Revenue and Survey Office to ensure transparency and smooth working procedure.
“These demands are not only in the interest of entrepreneurs but also for the overall socio-economic development of the country,” Kunwar said. Therefore, there is a need for collaboration between the private sector and the government to modernize Nepal through safe, sustainable and inclusive urbanization. ”
