Women of Tamankhola becoming self-reliant through Dhaka industry

Kathmandu. Jamuna Gharti of Taman village of the district is skilled in weaving Dhaka cloth. Gharti, who has been weaving Dhaka’s askot since early morning at the building of Mahila Kalyan Mothers’ Group at Tamankhola Rural Municipality-3, said that 15 women like her have been weaving different clothes of Dhaka every day.

Gharti said that the office of Tamankhola Rural Municipality has been facilitating the sale of clothes produced by the women.TAG_OPEN_div_20 The rural municipality has invested to make it more professional by inducting the women who learned the skills of Dhaka cloth production in the village through trainers who came from Myagdi some seven years ago.

“The municipality is organizing various programs. In these programs, we have been using shawls and shawls produced by women as a token of love. We have been marketing women’s products by using caps, scarves and scarves in programs like honoring the senior citizens,” said Hira Kumari Chhantyal, vice-chairperson of the rural municipality.

Chhantyal said that the rural municipality had provided skill training to women seven years ago, provided necessary materials and also helped construct the building.TAG_OPEN_div_14 According to him, the local government has so far invested Rs 25 lakh for the construction of materials, building and training. The women here earn up to Rs 50,000 a month by weaving Dhaka clothes, said Chhantyal.
