Consultative Workshop of Provincial Partners on Planning and Practices of Social Security Fund

. The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Kathmandu and the Far-Western Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in collaboration with the Social Security Fund (SSF) of Sudurpaschim Province organized a “Consultant Workshop with Provincial Stakeholders on Existing Social Security Schemes and Practices” at Hotel Floor in Dhangadhi.

The program was presided over by Pushpa Kunwar, President of FNCCI Far-Western Province and Nirp Sunar of Sudurpaschim Province Policy and Planning Commission of Sudurpaschim Province was the special guest and Vice President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Prabal Jung Pandey was the chief guest.TAG_OPEN_div_36

Krishna Adhikari, Deputy Executive Director of Social Security Fund, facilitated the program and gave a detailed presentation on policy provisions of the fund, legal base, various social security schemes, contribution rate, claim payment system and strategies to include formal, informal, self-employed and foreign employment workers.TAG_OPEN_div_34 The social security fund was playing an important role in strengthening the overall economy through universal health access, contribution-based pension system and internal capital formation.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Prabal Jung Pandey said that the social security system should be taken as an important medium to secure the future of the workers, systematize the responsibilities of the employers and contribute to sustainable economic development.TAG_OPEN_div_32 He stressed on the need of further expanding the scope of social security scheme through collaboration among private sector, workers and the government.

Special guest Nirp Sunar said that the social security system should be seen in connection with inclusive development, social justice and formalization of the labour sector.TAG_OPEN_div_30

The program was attended by representatives of the provincial government, local level officials, industrialists and entrepreneurs, representatives of trade unions and other stakeholders.TAG_OPEN_div_28 On the occasion, the participants presented suggestions on the effective implementation of social security schemes, improvement in service delivery, engagement of workers in informal sector and awareness raising.

Welcoming the participants of the program, FNCCI President Pushpa Kunwar said that the FNCCI would continuously take the suggestions received from the workshop to the policy level to make the social security system more effective, inclusive and sustainable.TAG_OPEN_div_26 He believed that the social security campaign would be successful only through collaboration among employers, workers and the government.

Informing about the objectives of the program, FNCCI Assistant Director Hari Poudel said that the workshop has been organized with the objective of developing common understanding among the province-level stakeholders about the existing provisions of the social security system, challenges and opportunities for its implementation, increasing the participation of employers, workers and government bodies in the social security fund and collecting suggestions for policy reforms.TAG_OPEN_div_24 He expressed the belief that effective implementation of the social security scheme would help in expanding the formal labour market and building a productive economy He did.
