International Women’s Cooperatives Conference-2026 to be organized by Cooperative Federation

. The International Women Cooperatives Conference-2026 is going to be organized by the National Cooperatives Federation of Nepal (NCFN). The conference is scheduled to be held at Heritage Garden in Lalitpur on June 21 and 20.

The theme of the conference is “Women in Leadership: Cooperatives in Prosperity”.TAG_OPEN_div_52 Likewise, strengthening gender-responsive policies and practices in cooperatives and supporting economic, social and political empowerment of women through cooperatives, Dr Pun Shrestha said. The conference is also being organized to strengthen women’s leadership by providing them with the skills, knowledge and opportunities they need to reach the leadership level, to develop innovative thinking and strategies through the exchange of successful practices in the cooperative sector in different countries of the world, and to take policy initiatives to ensure equal participation of men and women.TAG_OPEN_div_50

The conference also aims to expand cooperation and relations among women cooperatives of different countries.TAG_OPEN_div_48 The objective of the conference is to increase the effective participation of women in the policy making process and formulation of women-friendly cooperative policy with emphasis on entrepreneurship, employment and market access.

The conference will be attended by national and TAG_OPEN_div_46 international women cooperative activists, women representatives from government agencies and various organizations, development partners, women entrepreneurs, and researchers.

With the United Nations declaring 2026 as the International Year of the Women Farmers, the conference will highlight the contribution of women in agriculture, food security and rural development.TAG_OPEN_div_44 In Nepal, more than 8 percent of rural women are directly involved in the agriculture sector, which accounts for one-fourth of the GDP.

The fact that women actively participate in more than 32,000 cooperatives across the country is about 56 percent, which also shows the strong presence of women in cooperatives and agriculture.TAG_OPEN_div_42

Women cooperatives, policy makers, researchers, development partners, representatives of international cooperatives and women entrepreneurs from Nepal and other countries will participate in the conference.TAG_OPEN_div_40

The program will feature presentations and panel discussions on the status of women in the cooperative movement, women empowerment, leadership development, food security, financial inclusion, digital transformation, entrepreneurship development, market expansion and employment generation through cooperatives.TAG_OPEN_div_38 Best practices and success stories from different countries will also be presented in the conference, as well as women cooperatives products exhibition, skill demonstration, cultural programs and observation visits of successful cooperatives.

Registration for the conference will be done through Google online form and the registration fee has been fixed at five thousand per participant.TAG_OPEN_div_34 The federation has appealed to the women cooperatives who want to participate in the conference to secure their seats on time.

The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration is collaborating in the conference.TAG_OPEN_div_32 In addition, National Cooperatives Bank, NEFSCUN, Small Farmers Development Laghubitta, ILO Nepal and Heifer International are the co-organizers.
