Kathmandu. Acting Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Dirgha Kumar Shrestha has said that he was positive on the issue of allowing the private sector to participate in electricity trade and construction of transmission lines.

Shrestha said this while delivering his best wishes at the 24th General Meeting and 8th convention of IPPAN.

“The contribution of the private sector in production is very commendable. I am clear that the private sector should be involved in power trading and transmission line construction.

I have been telling the minister that the private sector should also be brought in,” he said.

He also said that the role of the private sector would be important in meeting the government’s target of exporting 15,000 MW.

Stating that the private sector involved in energy development has been entangled in various issues related to forest, Shrestha said that the Energy Minister should take initiative to encourage the forests to resolve the forest problems.
