One killed in US attack in eastern Pacific

Kathmandu. A U.S. military official said Tuesday that one person was killed when a boat was attacked in the eastern Pacific.

The attack was part of Operation Southern Spear, a military operation directed by President Donald Trump to crack down on drug traffickers from Latin America.

“Detectives confirmed that the boat was transiting along narco-smuggling routes in the eastern Pacific and was involved in a narco-smuggling operation,” the U.S. Southern Command said in a statement posted on X.

Two people were injured in the attack, while the US Coast Guard launched a search and rescue operation, Southam said.

More than 200 people have been killed in the Southern Spire attack in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific, AFP reported.

Legal experts and rights groups have said attacks targeting civilians who do not pose an immediate threat to the United States would constitute an extrajudicial attack.
