Monitoring of technology in public transport in Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu. Emphasis has been given on the use of technology in order to make the public service vehicles operating in the Kathmandu Valley more safe, systematic and passenger-friendly.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, dash camera, CC camera and GPS system have been installed in 3,303 public service vehicles in the Kathmandu Valley so far.

A provision has been made mandatory for the installation of dash camera, CC camera and GPS system in the public vehicles operating in the Kathmandu Valley for the safety of passengers, vehicle management and surveillance.

Transport entrepreneurs have also given priority to the installation of the technology after the Department of Transport Management and the Traffic Police started regular monitoring whether the technology was installed in public vehicles or not.

Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and Senior Superintendent of Police Suresh Prasad Kafle said that the cameras and GPS system would be effective to monitor and control misbehavior of passengers in public vehicles, high fare, condition of vehicle operation and so on.

He said, “This system will be very easy to control the behavior of passengers and charge high fare to the passengers.” This will also help to end the tendency of large vehicles to be blamed, especially in case of road accidents, and to prevent the possible misuse of accident insurance. ”

According to him, with the installation of GPS system, the vehicle owners will be able to easily know the location of their vehicle and the condition in which it is operating. It is also believed that it will have a positive impact on regular monitoring of vehicles, responsibility of drivers and safety of passengers.

Kafle said that the installation of dash camera and CCTV camera in public transport is expected to help resolve disputes as it will be possible to keep record of the activities taking place inside the vehicles.

Central President of Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs, Saroj Sitaula, said the installation of dash and CC camera technology in public service vehicles was a positive step for the transport entrepreneurs. “Installing dash camera, CC camera and GPS in public service vehicles is a good thing for us,” he said. But for this, the government also needs to bring clear procedures. Once the work procedure is made, we are ready to move forward by connecting all the vehicles. ”

Transport entrepreneurs have also expressed commitment to install technology including dash camera and CC camera in vehicles, saying the use of technology is necessary to make the public transport sector safe, transparent and accountable.

Spokesperson of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and Superintendent of Police (SP) Naresh Raj Subedi said the plan was to make passenger safety and traffic management more effective by making the system mandatory in all public service vehicles operating in the Kathmandu Valley in the coming days.

According to him, it is expected that the increasing surveillance of public transport through technology will help reduce road accidents, address the complaints of passengers and make it easier to determine responsibility of drivers and vehicle owners.
