Kathmandu. The Ministry of Health and Food and Hygiene has said that there is no shortage of vaccine against rabies.
Joint Spokesperson at the Ministry Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari said there was no shortage of vaccine against rabies. He said that although the government does not have enough vaccines, all the hospitals have vaccines for emergency treatment. “We don’t have a lot of vaccines. There is a vaccine for emergency administering to the patients,” he said, adding, “Soon the vaccine will come through the tender process.” ”
Joint Spokesperson of the Ministry Dr Adhikari said that tender has been called for bringing five thousand vials of new vaccines. He said that the process of bringing the vaccine has been started by tendering again after the tender was not received three times in January, March and May.
Rabies should be vaccinated against rabies after being bitten by animals such as dogs, cats and monkeys. According to him, the World Health Organization (WHO) would provide 4,500 vials of the vaccine within two to three days.
Some time ago, the WHO had provided five thousand vials of vaccine for emergency treatment. Director of Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, Dr Anup Bastola, said that the hospital administration has been administering vaccines against rabies to the patients.
“We are vaccinating all the patients who come to the hospital to get vaccinated against rabies”, he said, adding, “There is no shortage of vaccine against rabies in our hospital.” According to him, 180 people come to the hospital every day to get vaccinated against rabies.
Sameer Kumar Adhikari, chief of the medical records section of the hospital, said 55,759 patients were vaccinated against rabies in the current fiscal year alone. In the fiscal year 2080/81, 63,815 people were vaccinated against rabies, while in the fiscal year 2081/82, 47,586 people were vaccinated against rabies.
