Kathmandu. Rasuwa Customs Office, District Police Office and Armed Police Force (APF) have made public the seized goods from mid-July to mid-April of the current fiscal year.

The police confiscated illegal goods worth Rs 35.1 million 76 thousand 420 through the joint efforts of these agencies as part of the campaign to control revenue leakage.

Information Officer at the Customs Office, Karbir Gai, said that 15 times the customs office, 19 police offices and 23 APF 20 companies raided different places.

The seized items include chocolates, pickles, sauces used in chow mein, readymade clothes, roll clothes, coffee, children’s toys, thermos, vapes and cigarettes. According to the Customs Office, more than 80 percent of the seized goods were food consumables.

Information Officer at the Customs Office said that although the security personnel initially evaluated the goods on the basis of market price, the final price would be determined on the basis of the test on food quality control and the decision of the international market price and price fixation committee.

According to District Police Chief Ashok Thapa, the police have strictly continued patrolling, vehicle checking and handing over to the Customs Office after taking control of all types of illegal goods found on the basis of information received from them.

Meanwhile, the Rasuwa police had arrested the ambulance driver from Betrawati on March 6 after he was found involved in illegal activities in an ambulance carrying patients by hiding Chinese cigarettes. According to the Customs Office, the ambulance was returned to the concerned rural municipality after the driver was released on bail after completing the legal process.

Customs officials said joint monitoring and checking by security agencies and customs offices would be made more effective to control revenue leakage and check illegal imports.
