Former secretary Kishor Thapa appointed chairman of TU Service Commission

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Former secretary of the government and senior urban planner Kishor Thapa has been appointed the chairman of the Tribhuvan University (TU) Service Commission. Prime Minister and Tribhuvan University Chancellor Balendra Shah appointed Thapa as the chairman of the National Service Commission.

Prof. Dr. Regina Maskey has been appointed as a member of the Service Commission.TAG_OPEN_div_22 Both appointments have been made with the objective of making the service commission of Tribhuvan University effective, transparent and capable human resources, according to university sources.

The committee formed under the leadership of Pro-Chancellor Sasmit Pokharel, who is also the Minister for Education and Sports, had recommended the names of three candidates to the chancellor after studying, evaluating and interviewing the applications received for the post of chairman of the commission.TAG_OPEN_div_20 On the basis of this recommendation, Chancellor Shah appointed Thapa to the post.

TAG_OPEN_div_18 The recommendation committee had invited applications from eligible people for the post of chairman of the Service Commission in May last year. The names of the eligible candidates were recommended after evaluating the qualifications, experience, leadership and performance of the applications received as per the prescribed procedure.

Known as an architect and urban planner, Kishor Thapa has contributed to the civil service of the Government of Nepal for more than four decades in various capacities.TAG_OPEN_div_16 He has also served in the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Water and Energy Commission Secretariat and other bodies.

He has played a leading role in the formulation and implementation of important government policies and programs including the National Housing Plan, the National Urban Development Strategy, the Technical Education and Vocational Training Policy, and the Nepal Tourism Year 2011.TAG_OPEN_div_14

Thapa, who has also contributed to the post-earthquake reconstruction campaign as an expert member of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA’s Directive Committee), is currently associated with the Nepal Institute of Urban and Regional Studies as an urban planning expert and a visiting faculty member at Kathmandu University.TAG_OPEN_div_12 He has long experience in housing, urban development, infrastructure, disaster management and public policy sectors.
