Janakpurdham. The construction of the 18-km Jayanagar-Bardibas railway has gained momentum.

According to Paresh Parajuli, general manager of Nepal Railway Company, the construction company Ircon International has started the work with the aim of operating the railway service up to Bardibas within two years with the settlement of the dispute related to land compensation. Construction of tracks is underway in Dhanusha and Mahottari.

Of the 70 kilometers Jayanagar-Bardibas railway, the Jayanagar-Kurtha section has been operating on a regular basis since April 2, 2021.

Meanwhile, the Nepal Railway Company has started searching for its land that has been encroached upon. General Manager Parajuli said that a search has been launched based on the map after railway land was found encroached upon at different places.

The Jayanagar-Bardibas railway is an important cross-border railway project between Nepal and India. The broad gauge railway is under construction under Nepal-India bilateral cooperation. The project is expected to facilitate mobility, trade and economic activities between the two countries and contribute to expansion of railway infrastructure in Nepal.
