Rain forecast in most places including Kathmandu

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU:- Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is predicted at most places of the country including the Kathmandu Valley today as the monsoon system remains active throughout the country.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the weather will be cloudy throughout the day in most of the urban areas of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

According to the urban weather forecast released by the Division, rainfall is likely to occur in most of the major cities of the country including the Kathmandu Valley during the day and night as well. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is especially likely in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, Taplejung, Jiri and Dadeldhura.

Similarly, there is a possibility of 40 per cent rainfall in Biratnagar, Dharan, Dhankuta, Bhairahawa, Ghorahi, Birendranagar, Jumla, Dipayal and Simara. There is 30 per cent chance of light rain in Janakpur, Nepalgunj and Jomsom.

The maximum temperature in Kathmandu is expected to be 29 to 31 degrees Celsius today. The minimum temperature will be around 20 to 22 degrees Celsius tonight and moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur during the day and night.

The maximum temperature in the tourist city of Pokhara is expected to be 31 to 33 degrees Celsius. There is 60 per cent chance of moderate rain in the day and night. Likewise, there is the possibility of incessant rainfall in Okhaldhunga, Taplejung and Jiri districts, urging one and all to take special precaution while travelling on the hilly roads.

Although there is possibility of rain accompanied by thunder in Biratnagar, Dharan and Janakpur in the eastern Tarai region, the maximum temperature will be 33 to 37 degrees Celsius.

Although there is possibility of light to moderate rainfall in Dhangadhi, Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa and Ghorahi of western Nepal, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 35 to 38 degrees Celsius. Light rain is predicted in Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj during the night as well.

There are chances of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in Jumla, Jomsom and Taplejung districts of the mountainous region. The Department has advised the people to adopt necessary precaution as the risk of road travel may increase due to landslides in these areas.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, there may be moderate to heavy rainfall in some places in short term due to the active monsoon system. The public has been urged to stay alert in view of the possibility of landslide and mudslide in hilly and mountainous districts as well as inundation in urban areas.

Meteorologist Sanjeev Adhikari urged one and all not to stay in open spaces, tall trees, electric poles and river banks during the time of thunderstorm and lightning. He also requested the people to follow the updated information to be issued by the local administration and Meteorological Department regularly.
