PM Shah tells ADB Chair Kanda: Under construction Dudhkoshi Reservoir Hydropower Project very important for us 

. KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that promotion of good governance, rapid economic growth, employment generation and quality public services are the priorities of the incumbent government.

Prime Minister Shah said this during a meeting with Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda today.TAG_OPEN_div_51

On the occasion, Prime Minister Shah briefed Chair Kanda on increasing the effectiveness of public investment, promoting economic growth led by the private sector, accelerating energy development, modernizing infrastructure and advancing digital transformation.TAG_OPEN_div_49

He expressed the belief that a stable policy environment and strong institutions are the basis for attracting investment and achieving sustainable and inclusive development.TAG_OPEN_div_47

According to PM’s press and research expert Deepa Dahal, the meeting focused on consolidating the ADB partnership.TAG_OPEN_div_45

On the occasion, ADB’TAG_OPEN_div_43 s Energy Strategy emphasized on the need for a partner in clean energy production, stating that Nepal has huge potentials in hydropower.

During the discussion, Prime Minister Shah said that the Dudhkoshi Reservoir-based Hydropower Project being constructed with ADB assistance is the priority project of the government and very important for the long-term energy security.TAG_OPEN_div_41 The Prime Minister also stressed the need to start the financial management process at the earliest.

On the occasion, the meeting discussed on further collaborating under ADB’s ‘Country Partnership’ especially in energy, connectivity, urban development and digital infrastructure sectors.TAG_OPEN_div_39

On the occasion, Prime Minister Shah expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Nepal for its continuous support in Nepal’s journey towards the development of Nepal over five decades and expected continued support in the days ahead.TAG_OPEN_div_37

The ADB currently has an active net portfolio of around $4.2 billion in Nepal.TAG_OPEN_div_35 A total of 31 projects are under implementation.

The ADB is implementing a $TAG_OPEN_div_33 150 million assistance program for 2026 under “Policy-Based Lending”.

The meeting also focused on the priority areas of drinking water, sanitation, urban infrastructure development, youth employment promotion, disaster risk management, digital governance and collaboration.TAG_OPEN_div_31

During the meeting with the Prime Minister, ADB Chair Kanda pledged to give continuity to the assistance provided to Nepal, according to Dahal.TAG_OPEN_div_29

Similarly, expressing satisfaction over Nepal’s digital economy being developed as a new base for economic growth and employment, Chairman Kanda pledged ADB’s continued support in strengthening digital infrastructure and digital public infrastructure.TAG_OPEN_div_27
