Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration has formed a 9-member implementation committee to protect and remove encroachment on Guthi land in the greater Janakpur area, including Ram Janaki Temple in Dhanusha.

The committee was formed by the Ministry to expedite the implementation of the reports prepared in the past for the conservation and management of Pokhari, Pokhari Dill, Ram Janaki Temple and other major temples and guthi lands within Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City.

The committee has been formed under the convenorship of Guthi Administrator Dhruba Ghimire at the headquarters of the Guthi Sansthan. The members of the committee include Assistant Chief District Officer of District Administration Office, Dhanusha, District Coordination Officer of District Coordination Committee, Director of Department of Land Management and Archives, Chief Land Administration Officer of Dhanusha, Chief Survey Officer of Survey Office, Dhanusha, Chief of Guthi Sansthan branch office, Dhanusha, among others.

According to the Ministry, the committee has been given the responsibility of removing encroachments on Pokhari, Pokhari, Ram Janaki Temple and other major shrines and guthi land under the Greater Janakpur Area.

The committee will implement the tasks mentioned in the report of the High-Level Taskforce-2062, the report of the government, public and Guthi Land Conservation Inquiry Commission-2076 and other reports related to Guthi land.

According to the committee’s jurisdiction, a notice will be issued to the concerned person to voluntarily vacate the land within seven days by drawing the encroachment on the temple premises, pond and pond settlements. Similarly, the concerned person will be asked to remove the encroachment within fifteen days by delineating the area where houses and huts have been constructed in other guthi land.

If the encroachments are not removed within the stipulated time, the encroachments would be removed within 15 days in coordination with the local administration and the concerned local level. The committee has been asked to submit a report along with its progress report within 15 days after the removal of encroachments is completed.

According to the Ministry, with the formation of this committee, the protection and management of Guthi properties of historical, religious and cultural importance would be further strengthened by effectively implementing the suggestions made by the past study, commission and taskforce.
