Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN-UML) has officially recalled its representatives from the constitution amendment preparation taskforce.

CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel wrote a letter to the coordinators of the taskforce formed as per the decision of the government. Bhim Adhikari said that although he participated in the initial phase, he expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the task force and decided to call back the representatives.

The UML has concluded that the activities of the taskforce from the very beginning have been suspicious, the issues of constitution amendment have not been clearly defined, the government’s view towards the basic structure of the constitution is not clear and some issues discussed are against the spirit of federal democratic republic.

Although the UML has sought clear views from the government on these issues, it has not received any response so far. The party is of the view that the constitution should be amended only with the objective of further strengthening the basic features of the constitution and correcting the shortcomings seen in course of its implementation.

The UML has decided to formally recall its representatives from the task force as the government has not received a clear response on its proposal.
