Nine-point agreement to be formed after 14-hour talks with Ganesh Nepali’s family

Kathmandu. The government and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) have signed an eight-point agreement with the family of Ganesh Nepali.

After 14 hours long talks at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, the government, Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the victim’s sides reached an eight-point agreement at 5:00 pm today.TAG_OPEN_div_45

The agreement was reached in the presence of Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Ishwor Raj Poudel and Chief Administrative Officer of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Saroj Guragain.TAG_OPEN_div_43 As per the agreement, the victim’s side has agreed to proceed with the post-mortem process of Nepali and to receive the body.

Nepalis from Jawaldhara of Soru Rural Municipality-1 in Mugu district had attempted self-immolation on October 10.TAG_OPEN_div_41 He died in course of treatment at the burn unit of Bir Hospital on July 9. The victim’s family was agitated over the incident.

The Government of TAG_OPEN_div_39 Nepal and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic demise of Ganesh Nepali and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.

{{TAG_OPEN_div_37} The government of Nepal will form an independent investigation committee under the convenorship of a former justice to investigate the incident as soon as possible. The committee has to submit its report to the government within seven days from the date of its formation.

The government has agreed to move ahead with the necessary decision process to declare the deceased Ganesh Nepali as a martyr based on the existing laws, past practices and the report and recommendations of the probe committee to be formed.TAG_OPEN_div_35

The meeting also agreed that the District Administration Office, Kathmandu would write to the KMC to suspend the police personnel deployed at the front of the incident site on the day of the incident, for the time being, and later take action as per the report and recommendations of the probe commission.TAG_OPEN_div_33

According to the agreement reached after a long homework, the long-term economic and social security of the victim’s family has been ensured.

As per the decision of the upcoming executive meeting of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the wife of the deceased, Ekmaya Nepali, will be guaranteed employment on the basis of her qualifications and capacity.TAG_OPEN_div_29

} Necessary arrangements will be made by Kathmandu Metropolitan City for the higher education of the dependent daughter of the deceased and the concerned agencies of the Government of Nepal will facilitate for this work. The metropolis will also provide an appropriate amount of relief to the dependent families of the deceased through decision from the upcoming executive meeting.

As per the agreement, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) will make all arrangements for the last rites of the deceased and the necessary management of the last rites in Kathmandu, addressing the humanitarian and practical aspects necessary for the time being.TAG_OPEN_div_25

Along with this, the victim’s family and relatives have taken the responsibility of receiving the dead body of the deceased, providing full support and facilitation in the legal process including post-mortem. As per the agreement, KMC will bear all expenses of transportation for the family members of the deceased and all expenses incurred during their last rites in Kathmandu.
