Nawalparasi. The incidents of landslide and inundation have increased in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) due to incessant rainfall. As many as 35 people have been displaced after roads were blocked at several places and water entered nine houses.
According to the District Police Office, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), nine houses were damaged in the flood and drainage water at Danchowk area of Gaindakot Municipality-4. Of them, 35 people from eight households have taken shelter at the homes of their relatives and neighbours.
Though there has been no human casualty in the incident, details of additional damage are being ascertained, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Yubaraj Khadka of District Police Office, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East).
The ground floor of the house of ward chair Prem Raj Timilsina of Gaindakot Municipality-15 has been soaked with 20 quintals of paddy and clothes. In the same area, the house of Sudip Ranabhat, a local, has also been soaked due to water entering the house, but there has been no human loss or displacement.
SP Khadka said that a police team has been mobilized from temporary police post Beldiha and necessary coordination.
The road section has been completely obstructed along the Kaligandaki Corridor road section at Chisapani of Gaindakot municipality-3 due to landslides following incessant rainfall on Monday night. A police team from the Area Police Office, Gaindakot has been mobilized at the incident site and coordination is underway to open the road, it is said.
Earlier, the inner road leading to Rumjhatar was obstructed due to rise in the water level in Ratekhola along the border of Hupsekot rural municipality-4 and 5. Similarly, the inner road leading from Jhyalabas to ward-6 office has also been obstructed due to the landslide at Hupsekot rural municipality-6. Efforts are underway to open the road in coordination with the police and local levels in both the places.
SP Khadka said that incidents of landslide, inundation and road obstruction have been seen in different places of the district due to incessant rain. Keeping in view the continuous rainfall, surveillance has been stepped up on the river banks, hilly roads and vulnerable settlements in the district.
