Kathmandu. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) has warned that the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s main energy transit routes, will remain closed unless the US ends its “aggressive activities”. At the same time, other regional oil and gas export routes linked to US interests could also be targeted, the IRGC said.

The US-Iran conflict since late February has severely affected oil and gas shipments from the Gulf region. The disruption of the Strait of Hormuz, an important route for global energy supplies, has also raised concerns in international energy markets.

According to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, the IRGC attacked US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation. At the same time, it warned that offshore energy routes that are in America’s economic and strategic interests could be at greater risk.

In a statement, the IRGC accused the United States of trying to influence global oil and gas supply chains through its maritime activities, which could result in the disruption of other energy export routes used by US allies. However, no details have been made public about which routes could be affected.

“Exports of oil and gas from the region will either be for everyone or for none,” the statement warned. The IRGC has said it will continue its retaliatory actions and the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the US stops the attack.

U.S. officials have rejected Iran’s claim that it can maintain full control over the Strait of Hormuz and has said it will take all necessary steps to keep international shipping lanes open.
