Kathmandu. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Dr Bishwanath Poudel has said the monetary policy could not be bigger than the government’s budget and policy and programme.
Speaking at a policy-level discussion on the Monetary Policy 2083/84 organized by the Ex-Planners’ Forum Nepal, he said the monetary policy has been brought to support the budget brought by the government.
He said the monetary policy has been brought for the fiscal year 2083/84 to support the government’s budget and policies and programmes.
“In the past years, much was expected from the monetary policy compared to the government’s policies and programmes and the budget. That is why we have brought the monetary policy to support the budget brought by the government. ”
Governor Poudel claimed that the NRB has brought the monetary policy as per the authority given by the law. “In the past years, there used to be leakage before the monetary policy was introduced. But nothing of that sort has happened now”, he said. However, the central bank cannot address all the issues. ”
Former executive director of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Nar Bahadur Thapa, said although one expects that the monetary policy would address all kinds of problems in the past years, this time’s monetary policy is focused on only limited sectors. “In the past, it was expected that the monetary policy would put an end to all problems. There is no need to be disappointed as the policy has come in different sections. ”
Former executive director Thapa said that the monetary policy has been brought in three different segments from this time. “It is not enough to restructure the loan every year. Entrepreneurship will not develop unless there is a corporate restructuring. NRB needs to move towards corporate restructuring,” he said.
