Kathmandu. The Department of Roads has said efforts are underway to resume the Kodari road section along the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchowk by this evening.
The Araniko Highway has been completely obstructed due to landslides at Jirokilo of Bhotekoshi rural municipality-4 and Kodari area of Bhotekoshi rural municipality-2 in Sindhupalchowk district. According to the Department, works are taking place with the aim of bringing the road into operation from this evening itself if the weather condition is favourable.
Director General of the Department of Roads, Bijaya Jaishi said works are taking place to bring the road into operation from this evening if there is no heavy rain and from tomorrow if the rain continues. “The target is to bring the Kodari road into operation from this evening if the rainfall subsides,” he said. Work is underway to open the road by tomorrow if the rain continues”, he added.
Director General Jaishi said heavy equipment including dozer, excavator and loader have been kept on standby in the landslide-affected areas to bring the disrupted road section into operation soon. He said that the work to remove the landslide is going on at a rapid pace.
The Department of Roads has urged the public to adopt precautionary measures and take stock of the latest condition of the road as the risk of landslides has increased along the highway due to heavy rainfall in different parts of the country.
