Biratnagar. A cargo train carrying raw materials from Kolkata, India, has arrived at the Integrated Check Post in Biratnagar today.

The cargo train carrying industrial raw materials required for edible oil production arrived here today with 40 containers. Chief of Biratnagar Customs Office, Umesh Shrestha, businessmen, entrepreneurs and the general public welcomed the train.

The Nepal-India transit agreement has come into effect from today for the import of goods from third countries to Nepal Customs Yard at Biratnagar-18, Bhediyari via Jogbani-based Indian customs yard.

Prior to this, Nepal’s Consul General in Kolkata, Ishwar Raj Paudel, officials of Kolkata Customs, Kolkata Port and Indian Container Corporation of India jointly bid farewell to the train.

Once the train service comes into operation, 45 containers of 40 feet each will reach Biratnagar.

According to entrepreneurs, the cargo train is safer, more reliable and cheaper than the road route and it will be easier to transport goods from Kolkata to Biratnagar in around 24 hours.

The industrialists and businessmen of the eastern region are happy with the operation of such railway cargo facility in Biratnagar only. Before this, the cargo train had arrived in Biratnagar on Jestha 1, 2080.
