Kathmandu. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the people residing in the rivers and rivers residing in various districts of the country to adopt high alertness as the water level in the rivers is expected to rise significantly.

According to the Department, small rivers flowing through Gorkha, Rupandehi, Arghakhanchi, Kapilvastu and Dang districts are at high risk of flash floods.

Similarly, Jhapa, Morang, Ilam, Sunsari, Panchthar, Tehrathum, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan, Kaski, Tanahun, Syangja, Parbat, Baglung, Gulmi, Palpa, Nawalparasi (east), Pyuthan, Banke, Bardiya, Doti, Dadeldhura, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Baitadi and Darchula districts are also at risk of flash floods.

Department’s Flood Specialist Binod Parajuli urged the people to adopt special alertness in and around the riverbanks and rivulets of these districts.

“One should not cross the river, fish, excavate the river-based materials and stay or travel on the river banks as the water current in the river may rise suddenly,” he said. ”

The Department has urged the local administration, security agencies and local levels to be prepared and respond to the risks of flash floods.
