Kathmandu. Stakeholders have said that the government’s announcement of returning the three percent equity tax levied in private education and health sector is welcome.

Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Balendra Shah on Tuesday took to Facebook to announce that the government has decided not to implement the three per cent parity fee in the private education and health sectors.

After the government’s announcement of withdrawing the three percent equity tax, the officials of the stakeholders of the education and health sector have openly praised the government’s announcement.

Former president of National Guardians Federation, Suprabhat Bhandari, said that the government has taken the right decision by making a ‘correction’ in the education tax. “It is people-friendly to listen to our voices and correct them,” he said, adding that it was appropriate for Prime Minister Shah to announce a no tax on education and health through social media. ”

Educationist Prof Dr Vidyanath Koirala said that the government should move towards improving the quality of students enrolled in community schools rather than taxing the education sector. “It would have been appropriate if the government had made adequate preparations before formulating any policy and rule,” he said, adding that the government should move towards improving the quality of the community schools by collaborating with the private schools. ”

RB Katawal, general secretary of the Private and Boarding Schools Organization of Nepal (PABSON), expressed his happiness over the withdrawal of the parity fee after listening to the request of the umbrella organization of private schools and the voice of the parents.

According to him, during the discussion between him and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel on Tuesday, he urged him to hold prior consultations while reviewing upcoming Acts, rules and curriculum and work as per the Supreme Court’s verdict.

Chairman of the National Private and Boarding Schools’ Association (NPABSAN) Subash Neupane said the decision of the government to withdraw tax in the education sector was positive. “The decision of the government to roll back the three per cent tax is praiseworthy and we have taken this decision positively. ”

Not only the stakeholders of the education sector but also the stakeholders of the health sector have welcomed the removal of three percent tax in the health sector. Likewise, Dr Sunil Sharma, a medical entrepreneur, said that the government has taken a welcome decision to remove the three per cent tax levied on the health sector.

“We have received information through social media that the government has removed the three percent health tax. If the government has officially removed the tax, it is certainly a welcome decision. ”

Likewise, central president of Consumer Rights Protection Forum Nepal and senior advocate Jyoti Baniya said that the government should withdraw the three percent tax levied on education and health and demanded the return of the five percent tax levied on electricity.

“The government has taken a people-friendly decision by withdrawing the three percent tax levied on education and health. It is certainly good that the government listens to the voice of the people,” he said, adding that the government should immediately remove the five percent tax imposed on those consuming more than 50 units of electricity. ”
