Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration has forwarded the process to operate land banks at local levels across the country with the objective of putting unused and barren private land to productive use.

Issuing a public notice, the Ministry clarified that the unused private land could be utilized through the local level as per the legal provisions as per the Land Use Act-2076 BS and Land Use Rules-2079 (third amendment, 2082).

According to the Ministry, the ‘Land Bank (Establishment and Operation) Work Procedure, 2083’ has been approved to implement this provision. According to the Ministry, an arrangement has been made to establish land bank at every local level as per the working procedure and a circular to this effect has already been sent to all the local levels. Now, every local government will establish and operate a land bank and initiate the necessary process to put the barren land to productive use.

The Ministry has urged the concerned landowners and stakeholders to contact the local levels and take advantage of the arrangement related to the land bank.
