Kathmandu. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has earned Rs 29.32 billion by exporting electricity to India and Bangladesh in the fiscal year 2082/083 BS. This amount is 67.96 percent more than the previous fiscal year.

In the fiscal year 2081/82, the company exported 2.38 billion units of electricity and earned Rs 17.45 billion. In the last fiscal year, Nepal exported 3.87 billion units.

The electricity is being sold at the rate of Rs 7.56 per unit through the open market of India and trilateral trade with Bangladesh.

Similarly, import of electricity from external sources has also decreased. In the fiscal year 2081/082, while importing 1.68 billion units of electricity, Rs 12.92 billion was outstanding. In the last fiscal year 2082/083 BS, the import volume decreased by 31.57 percent to 1.14 billion units. In the last fiscal year, the country imported electricity worth Rs 10.55 billion.

In the fiscal year 2082/083 BS, Nepal had saved a total of Rs 18.76 billion from electricity trade while the total import expense of Rs 10.55 billion was deducted from export income of Rs 29.32 billion.

In the previous fiscal year 2081/082, such savings were only Rs 4.53 billion, which has increased by 313 percent (more than four times) in the last fiscal year.
