India’s Education Minister Pradhan resigns amid nationwide protests

. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday resigned from his post following the NEET-UG 2026 question paper leak.

Pradhan said that he has resigned from the Union Cabinet keeping the interests of the students at the center and to avoid confusion among the youths amid the ongoing protests across the country.TAG_OPEN_div_34

In his resignation letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the former Prime Minister stated that he has been associated with the education sector for over four decades and said that a strong, inclusive and farsighted education system was the base for nation building.TAG_OPEN_div_32

He further said that after irregularities were found in the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3, the government immediately handed over the responsibility of investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), canceled the examination and conducted it again and decided to conduct the examination through computer-based testing (CBT) system from next year.TAG_OPEN_div_30

Pradhan, who is also a lawmaker elected from Sambalpur, said the government’s top priority was to protect the interests of over 20 lakh students during the re-examination process.TAG_OPEN_div_28 He also expressed his commitment that the future of any deserving student would not be affected due to the controversy related to the examination.

According to him, many deserving students from economically weaker backgrounds have also achieved success in the results of NEET-UG 2026 released on July 16.TAG_OPEN_div_26

Stating that he was saddened by the latest developments, he said he resigned from his post so that the anti-national forces would not take advantage of the ongoing agitations at Jantar Mantar and other places.
