Dr KC and government reach agreement

 

Kathmandu. Dr KC has been staging his 24th hunger strike in Dhangadhi demanding reforms in medical education, good governance and various demands. An agreement has been reached between Dr Govinda KC and the government.

A high-level talks team formed by the government of Nepal and Dr KC reached an agreement on Monday. With this, his Satyagraha came to an end.

The Shahid Dasharath Chand University of Health Sciences at Geta, Kailali will be operated with a teaching hospital with at least three hundred beds. It has been agreed to start the process to run educational programmes including MBBS from the current fiscal year.

Likewise, the Martyr Dasharathchand University Act-2082 would also be included in the amendment to the law related to the university. As per the agreement, the amendment proposal would be tabled within three months in the current parliament session to amend the provisions related to the qualifications and appointments of office-bearers.

The National Medical Education Act and Regulations will determine seats in the medical education sector and make provisions for the expansion of seats in public educational institutions without increasing the number of seats in private educational institutions. Similarly, a high-level taskforce would be formed within six months to give suggestions on transforming the medical educational institutions into a non-profit and service-oriented system.

Similarly, the government and Dr KC have also agreed to take action against the culprits of heinous murder, arson and looting in the past as per the law and to carry out an impartial investigation into the incidents of corruption committed by high-ranking people from 2046 BS till now. KC has reached an agreement.
