Kathmandu. Indrive, the global mobility and delivery platform, has successfully completed the first phase of Indrive Driving Nari Nepal, an initiative aimed at creating equal opportunities for women to pursue the driving profession.

On the occasion, 10 women who completed their three-month training were honoured at a certificate distribution ceremony held in Kathmandu. The participants were trained in various phases with the objective of providing them with the skills, confidence and resources they need to safely and self-sustain two-wheeler driving.

Driven Nari Nepal program launched in April 2026 aims to provide economic opportunities, especially to women from underprivileged communities, in the mobility sector. The programme also focuses on reducing the social and practical barriers that prevent women from entering professions traditionally dominated by men.

During the training, road safety was included as an important aspect of professional competency. Along with practical riding training, the participants were provided guidance on road safety and were also assisted in the process of obtaining a formal driving license.

Each participant was provided with a protective helmet and a safety kit that includes first aid and medical equipment.

Personal safety was also included as a separate important aspect of the training. The advanced self-defence training was conducted in partnership with Fightback Nepal, which helped participants identify potential security challenges, build confidence and develop the skills to deal with the situation in a practical manner.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sunil Jung Shah of Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, said, “Road safety is a common responsibility of all and every driver has an important role to play. We urge participants to obey traffic rules, always be aware on the roads and keep learning as you grow your experience. We congratulate all participants and wish them a safe and successful journey as a Professional Driver. ”

Expanding women’s access to mobility

For this group of women, a driver’s license is not only a means of income, but also an opportunity to access work, education, health care and the market independently on their own time. This will help reduce the need to rely on public transport schedules or other family members.

Two-wheeler-based ride-hailing service can connect four wheelers to the narrow alleys and final destinations that are difficult to reach. Generally, its fare is also lower than that of a four-wheeler. With the increased participation of women in ride-hailing services, passengers will also have more opportunity to choose the right driver for themselves.

Certificate Distribution Ceremony

The certificate distribution ceremony was attended by representatives of partner organizations, stakeholders from government agencies, media persons and distinguished guests.

During the ceremony, Indrive representative and brand ambassador of Indrive Nepal, Swastima Khadka handed over certificates, safety kits and tokens of love to the 10 participants who successfully completed the program. A video showcasing the journey of 10 women participating in the program was also screened.

On the occasion, one person received an electric scooter, three a smartphone and six a smartwatch. These materials are expected to further help them to start their professional driving journey.

The main question was whether there was a way for them to enter this profession. The first cohort conducted in Nepal showed how change is possible when training, licensing, and access to platforms are combined as a single journey.
