Identification and mobilization of Nepali experts from around the world essential for development of agriculture sector: Minister Chaudhary

. A delegation of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) met with Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Gita Chaudhary and discussed on the modernization of agriculture, transfer of knowledge and technology, mobilization of experts and development of rubber-based multi-dimensional agro-forestry system.

On the occasion, Vice-President of the NRNA and Chief of the Knowledge, Skills and Technology Transfer Department, Dr Gyanendra Regmi, said that there was a plan to organize a separate thematic session for the agriculture sector during the upcoming World Nepali Knowledge Conference-2027 to share knowledge, technology and experience among Nepali agriculture experts, researchers and stakeholders across the globe.TAG_OPEN_div_30

On the occasion, Dr. Regmi presented the concept paper of the project of establishing a community-based rubber nursery and demonstration center under rubber-based multi-diverse agro-forestry system in the southern regions of Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari and Ilam.TAG_OPEN_div_28

The project was expected to contribute to the implementation of a long-term national roadmap for quality plant production, capacity enhancement of farmers, employment generation, environment protection and expansion of commercial rubber farming in around 20,000 hectares of land in the next 10 years.TAG_OPEN_div_26

Vice-President and Chief of the Non-Resident Nepali Welfare Department and coordinator of the Citizenship Continuity Committee, Rojina Pradhan Rai said that the agriculture sector was the priority of the NRNA and that the Nepali agriculture experts living abroad were facing practical difficulties in coming to Nepal to work due to the existing policy and legal provisions.TAG_OPEN_div_24

Deputy General Secretary Krishna Pokharel stressed the need to identify Nepali experts from around the world and link their knowledge, skills and experience to Nepal’s agricultural modernization, production enhancement and sustainable development campaign.TAG_OPEN_div_22

Chief Executive Officer Rajendra Kumar Raut said the Association has established the Department of Agriculture giving priority to the agriculture sector.TAG_OPEN_div_20 According to him, the Department has been preparing different action plans with the objective of linking knowledge, skills and experience of the Nepali agriculture experts around the world to contribute in the modern, commercial and sustainable agriculture development.

In response, Minister Geeta Chaudhary said that identification and mobilization of Nepali experts was very necessary for the development of the agriculture sector, urging the government to help in policy formulation and implementation of programmes by collecting the details of such experts through the worldwide network of NRNA.TAG_OPEN_div_18

He also pointed out the need for more collaboration between the government and NRNA for technology transfer, innovation, research and utilization of international experience in agriculture sector as per Nepal’s need.TAG_OPEN_div_16 On the occasion, discussions were held on sustainable development of agriculture, climate-resilient agriculture system, promoting investment and transferring knowledge and technology towards making Nepal’s agriculture more competitive, modern and product-oriented.
