Middle East enters dangerous phase of war again

. The United States on Thursday retaliated against several Iranian military targets after Iran’s missile attack targeted US military bases in Jordan.

The resumption of military clashes that stalled for nearly TAG_OPEN_div_58 a week has dealt a serious blow to hopes of easing tensions through talks and the Middle East has entered a dangerous phase of war again.

The U.S. military’s Central Command called the operation a “powerful response” to Iranian attacks on its troops stationed in the Middle East.TAG_OPEN_div_56 Ahead of the attack, US President Donald Trump told Fox News that Iran would be hit “hard”.

According to Iranian state media, US missiles were fired in the northwestern Piranshahr border area.TAG_OPEN_div_54 The Fars news agency said there were no casualties as the attack took place in a deserted area.

Jordan’s military said it had intercepted and destroyed five Iranian missiles.TAG_OPEN_div_52 Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said the attacks targeted US military bases and warned of “continued resistance” as long as the threat to Iran persisted.

On another front of the war, Israel has accused Hezbollah of using drones from Lebanon targeting Israeli vehicles, calling it a clear violation of the ceasefire.TAG_OPEN_div_50 Israel has previously taken joint action with the United States in the early stages of its war against Iran, but there has been no confirmation of its direct involvement in the latest attacks.

Meanwhile, the United States and Saudi Arabia have carried out joint airstrikes targeting weapons depots and bases of Iranian-backed armed groups inside Iraq.TAG_OPEN_div_47 The U.S. military said the strike hit a logistics and weapons storage facility.

Iraq’TAG_OPEN_div_44 s Hassad al-Shaabi coalition said at least 20 of its members were killed in the attack. The coalition denounced it as a “dangerous escalation” on Iraq’s official security structure. Two Hassad officials said five Iranian military advisers were among those killed. An AFP correspondent said he had seen coffins covered with Iranian flags.

Hassad al-Shaabi, which was formed in 2014 to fight the jihadists, was later integrated into the Iraqi security structure.TAG_OPEN_div_42 It includes several armed groups with close ties to Iran.

The Iraqi government has condemned the U.S.-Saudi invasion and said it was “unacceptable” to interfere with its sovereignty.TAG_OPEN_div_40 The National Security Council has made it clear that Iraq’s territory will not be allowed to be used against any neighboring country. However, according to Fox News, President Trump said that the operation was coordinated with the Iraqi government.

These developments come as the US is increasing pressure on Iraq to disarm Iran-backed armed groups.TAG_OPEN_div_38 Earlier this month, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi visited both the US and Iran.

The war has also affected global energy markets.TAG_OPEN_div_36 U.S. stock markets have fallen sharply as oil prices soared, and the yield on 30-year U.S. Treasury bonds has hit their highest level since 2007.

Earlier, efforts were being made to start a new round of talks between the US and Iran by reducing tensions.TAG_OPEN_div_34 At its center was the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for global energy supply. Iran effectively controlled the Strait of Hormuz for most of the war.

Iran’TAG_OPEN_div_32 s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said it had seized three oil tankers, claiming full control of the strait. Tehran has also announced plans to levy tariffs on ships using the route, which the US strongly opposes.

Washington has imposed new sanctions on entities and individuals linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, accusing them of suppressing ships passing through Hormuz.TAG_OPEN_div_30 The growing insecurity along the Strait of Hormuz has further heightened the strategic importance of the Red Sea as an alternative export route for Saudi Arabia.
