New provision for demand verification, mandatory for workers going for foreign employment

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment has made demand verification more systematic in the process of sending Nepali workers abroad for foreign employment.

According to the ministerial decision, from now on, a detailed job description of the work to be done by the workers will have to be mentioned while verifying the demand for foreign employment. Also, you have to clearly disclose what type of work is inside the company (indoor) or outside the company (outdoor). If there is a need to do both types of work, it should be certified by mentioning the working hours of both.

Earlier, only the title of the work was mentioned but there was a provision for certification of the demand. The service conditions, remuneration, facilities, work environment and other aspects of the agreement are examined and certified as per the Foreign Employment Demand Letter Inquiry Directive, 2075 BS.

According to the Ministry, the new system would help minimise the possible exploitation and fraud on Nepali workers in course of foreign employment, ensure their service conditions and make the sending of Nepali workers more just, transparent and effective.
