Butwal. Three child labourers have been rescued from two restaurants in Butwal Sub-metropolis-6 of Rupandehi district.

According to the Department of Labour and Business, a joint monitoring carried out on July 20 in coordination with the Labour and Employment Office found that child labour was being used in Raju Restaurant and Sushant Restaurant.

A joint team from the District Administration Office, Rupandehi, Area Police Office, Butwal, Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City and CWIN Nepal Child Helpline 1098 had inspected the place. During the inspection, it was found that Raju was working as a labourer in a restaurant while two children were working in the restaurant. The rescued children were sent to an emergency shelter in CWIN Nepal for immediate protection.

The team has decided to fine both the restaurants Rs 50,000 each for using child labour. In addition, according to the Labor Act, the remaining salary and compensation amount has been paid on the basis of the period of work done by them. The government has paid Rs 384,349 for the boy working at Raju Restaurant and Rs 187,486 and Rs 41,536 respectively for two children working at Sushant’s restaurant.

Restaurant operators have been warned no longer to use child labour. The rescued children have been handed over to their relatives after completing the necessary procedures.
