Landslides and floods obstruct various highways across the country

Kathmandu. Vehicular movement has been affected on major highways and roads in various districts of the country due to incessant rains, landslides and floods.

Unveiling details until 6:00 am today, Nepal Police said that some roads have been completely obstructed and vehicular movement has been banned on some roads at night.

All types of vehicular movement has been prohibited along the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi road section of the BP Highway linking Kavrepalanchowk and Sindhuli from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am in view of possible floods.

Similarly, all types of vehicles have been banned on the Kanti Highway from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am.

Ilam – Vehicular movement along the Mechi Highway of Ilam Municipality-9 has come to a complete halt after the road turned muddy due to incessant rainfall.

Vehicular movement has come to a complete halt due to landslides that occurred at Jirokilo and Kodari areas along the Araniko Highway in Bhotekoshi rural municipality of Sindhupalchowk district.

The road section has been obstructed after the Samakoshi River swept away the road section at Kirnetar of Tamakoshi rural municipality-5 in Dolakha district.

The Pasang Lhamu road section at Khalte of Uttargaya rural municipality-5 in Rasuwa district has been completely disrupted due to the erosion by the Trishuli river.

The road section has been completely obstructed due to a dry landslide at Kanti Highway of Bagmati rural municipality-3 in Lalitpur. Similarly, the Bhimphedi-Kulekhani-Kathmandu road section has been completely disrupted due to landslides near Mahalaxmi rivulet of Indrasarovar rural municipality-4.

According to Nepal Police, the Jajarkot-Dolpa road section has been completely obstructed due to the flooded Mulpani rivulet while the Beni-Jomsom road section has been obstructed due to landslides at Annapurna rural municipality-3, Sukebagar and Raghuganga rural municipality-2 of Myagdi district.

Police have urged one and all to take stock of the condition of the road and adopt necessary precaution before travelling as the risk of landslide, flood and road erosion is high during the rainy season.
