KATHMANDU: The United States of America is to fully implement the visa bond program for citizens of 50 countries, including Nepal.

According to the US State Department, those traveling to the US from 50 countries will have to deposit a maximum of $ 20,000 (about Rs 3 million).

The policy will be implemented in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Nigeria, Tanzania, Venezuela and Papua New Guinea.

According to the Federal Register, the business (B1) and travel and tourism (B2) visas will apply to those who apply.

According to the notice, visa issuing authorities can demand a maximum deposit of up to $20,000 from designated nonimmigrant visa applicants, subject to the decision of a consular officer.

In 2025, the US implemented this visa bond program as a pilot project for one year.

Now it is going to continue.

Previously, consular officers could demand bail of up to $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000. From August 3, 2026, the $5,000 option has been removed to the maximum limit of $20,000.

According to the United States, if the traveler leaves the US before the expiration of his visa or if the visa is not issued for any reason, the deposit will be refunded.

If you overstay in the U.S. for a reason, the money will not be refunded.
