Kathmandu. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav said the ministry was effortful to balance the supply and demand of LPG.

Responding to the queries raised by lawmakers in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister Yadav said necessary facilitation and market monitoring have been intensified to prevent shortage of cooking gas. He urged the consumers not to buy more than the required amount of cooking gas and not to run after rumours and misinformation.

He clarified that although the import of LPG was sufficient to meet the regular demand compared to the previous year’s import, the supply and demand imbalance was created in the market after the supply of full cylinder was started in the middle.

Minister Kumari informed that 58 LP gas factories are currently in operation with a total storage capacity of 10,166 metric tons and filling capacity of 175 gas cylinders daily. Stating that the concerned bodies have been directed to implement the directives of the parliamentary committee, he said that necessary technical work has been started from the Nepal Oil Corporation for tracking of LP gas cylinders.

Efforts are being made through diplomatic channel to increase the quota for gas import from India for three months due to the increase in demand, Minister Yadav said. He said that priority has been given to the consumers of household purpose by keeping the name, address and contact number of the buyers in a systematic manner and senior citizens, people with disabilities and the people with chronic diseases have been given priority.
