Solukhumbu. Solukhumbu: Two ward office buildings in Solukhumbu district are at high risk of landslide while 11 households have been displaced.

The office offices of Solududhkunda municipality-3 and Sotang rural municipality-4 are at high risk of landslides. The structures of the ward office as well as the surrounding settlements are at risk due to the landslide.

According to District Disaster Management Committee coordinator and Chief District Officer Kaman Singh Thapmagar, the ward office building of Solududhkunda municipality-3 is at risk of being landslided.

Similarly, the ward office building of Sotang rural municipality-4 is at risk due to landslide some days ago. “Other government structures in the district have also suffered minor damages due to incessant rainfall,” Chief District Officer Thapa Magar said.

A landslide occurred in the road area just above the ward office building at Tamakhani of Solududhkunda Municipality-3 swept away the toilet of the ward office. Ward chair Lhakpagelu Sherpa further informed that the administrative building nearby is also at high risk of landslide. According to him, a big landslide fell from the upper cliff of the ward office. The landslide has damaged the road and surrounding structures and there is a risk of further expansion of the landslide.

“The landslide is huge and it is not possible to stop it immediately”, said ward chair Sherpa. He said that the health post along with the ward office building could be affected if the landslide increases further. According to him, the landslide is continuously falling from the cliff located higher than the ward office, making the surrounding area more risky.

Similarly, the ward office building of Sotang rural municipality-4 is also at high risk of landslide. The landslide has swept away the wall of the ward office premises. Ward office building and staff’s quarters are also at risk of flooding, said ward chair Dip Bahadur Rai.

He said that the ward office building can be pulled down at any time as the landslide is increasing continuously. Five houses below the ward office have been displaced due to the landslide. As their homes are at risk, they are camping in a safe place.

“Landslides are increasing. Not only is the ward office at risk, but it has also endangered the settlement. “I don’t get sleep at night when it rains heavily”, Rai said, adding, “It is continuously raining.” The land around the ward office has been shaken by the landslide. I am very worried, I don’t know what will happen at any time. ”

Meanwhile, five families have been displaced due to landslide at Thulung Dudhkoshi rural municipality-9 in the district. According to District Police Office Solukhumbu Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Nabin Raja Budhathoki, they have been shifted to a nearby school building after their houses were at risk due to landslide.

Similarly, a family has been displaced due to landslide at Chaulakharka of Likhupike rural municipality-3. The family was shifted to the school building after their house was at risk of landslide, DSP Budhathoki said.

So far, 11 families have been displaced due to landslides in different parts of the district. The displaced families have been shifted to safer places without allowing them to stay in risky houses, police said. The risk of landslides has increased in rural roads, government structures and settlements surrounding areas in the district due to incessant rainfall. Extra vigilance is needed especially in the areas where roads have been expanded in steep terrain and in areas prone to landslides.

The District Administration Office and the local levels are monitoring the condition of settlements and structures at vulnerable areas in view of the possible risks of rainfall. According to the local people’s representatives, the risk of landslides is not likely to diminish immediately as it has been raining continuously. The District Disaster Management Committee has urged the people living in vulnerable areas to remain alert and move to safer places in case of possible disaster.
