FNJ demands release of editor Shrestha

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has demanded the immediate release of senior journalist and editor-in-chief of ‘Janaaaastha’ weekly Kishor Shrestha.

KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNJ) has demanded the immediate release of former acting chair of Press Council Nepal Shrestha from his residence in Kusunti, Lalitpur.

Issuing a press release today, FNJ General Secretary Ram Prasad Dahal condemned the arrests in violation of press freedom and freedom of expression, journalists’ code of conduct and the constitution.

Demanding the release of editor Shrestha, journalists have staged a sit-in in front of the office of Bhadrakali-based District Police Range, Kathmandu since this morning.

The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and various media-related organisations have also protested the arrest of journalist Shrestha and urged him to be released.

Meanwhile, Nepal Police has clarified that it has arrested journalist Shrestha after taking permission from the court on the basis of a complaint related to personal privacy.
