Far-West. Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Khagaraj Bhatta is set to seek a vote of confidence from the Province Assembly today.

According to Article 168 (2) of the constitution, he should get a vote of confidence from the Province Assembly within 30 days of his appointment to the post of Chief Minister.

Secretary at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat, Dev Bahadur Bogati, said that the meeting was taking place at 1:00 pm today as Chief Minister Bhatta had sent a letter to the secretariat on Tuesday urging it to manage the meeting for the purpose of taking a vote of confidence.

Chief Minister Bhatta will table a motion of confidence in the meeting. After this, the members of the Provincial Assembly will vote on the proposal and the voting process will move forward.

Bhatta was appointed chief minister on August 29. He was appointed with the support of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) and will prepare to expand the cabinet after getting a vote of confidence. Currently, there are three ministers and one state minister in a 10-member cabinet, including two state ministers and seven ministers. Chief Minister Bhatta has also looked after the portfolios of Internal Affairs and Law, Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment and Physical Infrastructure Development.

There are 22 members from the Communist Party of Nepal led by Chief Minister Bhatta, 18 from the Nepali Congress, 11 from the CPN (UML) and one member from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
