A day after returning to the post of Mexican Governor, he is on leave again!

. The governor of Mexico’s Sinaloa state, Ruben Rocha Moya, who is wanted on drug smuggling charges in the United States, has announced that he will be on leave a day after returning to office.

Rocha posted a letter on X on Saturday urging the state Congress to approve an indefinite temporary leave for more than 30 days.TAG_OPEN_div_18 On Friday, he announced that he would take over the leadership of Sinaloa.  He temporarily stepped down from his post in May as Mexican prosecutors launched an investigation.

President Claudia Sheinbaum on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction with the announcement of Rocha’s return.TAG_OPEN_div_16 “One’s personal interest should not be placed above the interest of the people,” he stressed.

When reporters asked about Rocha’s decision, Sheinbaum said he only learned from his social media posts that he was returning to the post.TAG_OPEN_div_14 The Justice Department indicted Rocha and nine officials from the ruling Morena party in April for their extradition, accusing them of colluding with a Sinaloa cartel to distribute drugs in the US.

This is the first time the United States has publicly accused a sitting Mexican politician.TAG_OPEN_div_12 Rocha said on Friday that he had not committed any crime and that he had returned to office with a clear conscience. Rocha, 77, is associated with Sheinbaum’s ruling Morena party and is considered a close ally of former President Andres Manuel López Obrador.

U.S. President Donald Trump has been pressing Mexico to crack down on drugs.TAG_OPEN_div_10 He has also offered military aid, claiming influence from politicians linked to drug trafficking in Mexico. Sheinbaum has denied such interference.
