Iran warns of treating US economic pressure campaigners as ‘enemies’

Kathmandu. Tehran: A senior Iranian security official has warned its neighbours and other countries not to join the US “economic pressure campaign” against Tehran. He said Tehran would treat countries that support the US campaign as “enemies”.

In an interview published by state broadcaster IRIB TV, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei said Iran would first hold talks with all concerned countries to pull off what the US calls an “economic war”.

He warned that if these countries continued to support the US campaign, Iran would take action against their interests. He said he would cut off oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf if regional countries backed US pressure measures.

Rezaei said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the US fulfilled its commitments under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Tehran and Washington in June. His comments came after US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that he would take “the strongest economic sanctions ever” against any country that supports Iran.

Trump said on Truth Social that such an action would be an “unprecedented economic war and an isolated attempt.”
