KATHMANDU: The Independent Power Producers’ Association of Nepal (IPPAN) has decided to contribute Rs 50.5 million to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund.

IPPAN President Mohan Kumar Dangi said that a cheque for the assistance amount would be handed over to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund in the presence of Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha.

Chairman Dangi said that the energy sector is not only related to Nepal’s prosperity but also to the happiness and sorrow of the Nepali people, so all the member companies should unite in the time of disaster and provide relief and hope to the victims. He urged all the member companies of IPPAN to actively and generously support the humanitarian campaign.

Expressing sorrow over the losses caused to various hydropower projects in operation or under construction due to floods, the meeting decided to provide necessary support in coordination with the government for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the damaged projects.

He also expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Chitwan and Tanahun districts due to flash floods in the Bhotekoshi River on Wednesday.

The meeting paid tribute to the citizens, employees and workers of the power plant who lost their lives in the floods and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. It also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
