Kathmandu. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced an emergency assistance worth USD 10 million (about Rs 1.38 billion) for the relief and rescue of the people affected by the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal.

The aid will be provided through the UAE Aid Agency under the direction of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The aid will be used for immediate relief, food, temporary shelter, medical supplies and other humanitarian assistance programs for the communities affected by the floods and landslides.

Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Amiri said that it is the humanitarian responsibility of the UAE to stand with the affected communities during natural disasters. He said that assistance will be delivered to the affected people by coordinating with the concerned agencies of Nepal and international humanitarian organizations.

The recent floods and landslides in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading have caused huge loss of life and property. According to various international media, hundreds of people have died and thousands of people are still out of contact.TAG_OPEN_p_7

The $TAG_OPEN_p_6 10 million aid announced by the UAE is considered to be one of the major international aid packages so far. It is expected to give further impetus to the rescue, relief distribution and rehabilitation efforts.
