Bhotekoshi Floods: Golyan Foundation at Ground Zero, From Food to Psychotherapy

Kathmandu. More than 900 people have died and about 4,000 are missing due to floods in the Bhotekoshi and other river basins. The survivors of the floods are also homeless. Their condition is very difficult.

In such a situation, the Golyan Foundation, a social service organization under the Golyan Group, has been working in the affected areas since August 11, the next day of the floods. The foundation has been providing food, health treatment, psycho-counseling and other services at the holding center of Chandra Jyoti Secondary School in Bidur Municipality-3 of Nuwakot among the flood-affected areas.

There are 68 households in Devighat area in the holding center. About 400 people including the family members and others have been provided food and snacks (three times a day) in the holding center. In addition to food, general health services and child psycho-counseling services have been provided. The group has mobilized 50 volunteers, staff and psycho-counsellors for this work through Golyan Foundation.TAG_OPEN_div_22

The volunteer group has been formed under the leadership of Jyoti Gaire, Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications of Golyan Group and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation. There are also about 40 children in the holding center. Apart from playing equipment, child counselling is also being done for them, said CEO Gaire. “Without any delay, the volunteer group of Golyan Foundation reached the affected area the next day and immediately made arrangements for food and drink,” she said.TAG_OPEN_div_19

Akshay Golyan, Chairman and Managing Director of Golyan Group, said that the relief and assistance plan was made on the day of the flood with the belief that the affected people should be supported and helped during the disaster. “In such a situation, we went to Bidur of Nuwakot and carried out immediate relief and relief work in order to reach the affected areas and help,” he said, “Our support will continue until the situation returns to normal.” The relief and assistance work will be made more effective by coordinating with the Government of Nepal and government agencies.TAG_OPEN_div_17 ’

TAG_OPEN_div_15 Golyan Group has donated Rs 10 million to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund (PMLF) for immediate relief after reaching the affected areas. Reliance Spinning Mills, a subsidiary of Golyan Group, on Monday handed over Rs 1 crore to the Government of Nepal to help the flood victims. The company’s Managing Director Akshay Golyan and Director Shashikant Agrawal handed over the cheque to Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle.

Reliance Spinning Mills is one of the leading yarn manufacturers in Nepal. The company has been producing yarn from factories located in Duhabi and Khanar of Sunsari. The amount has been donated as part of its social responsibility to support citizens and government during natural calamities.TAG_OPEN_div_13
