Kathmandu. As many as 4,216 people are still out of contact after the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on August 26.

Security agencies have intensified search and rescue operations following the floods causing huge loss of life and property.

As per the details released today by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), 45 Nepal Army personnel, 25 Nepal Police personnel and 13 Armed Police Force personnel have gone missing in the floods.

Similarly, 14 people from the customs office, three from the immigration office and around 865 people from Rasuwa are out of contact.

According to the NRA, 1,558 Nepalis from Nuwakot, 583 foreign nationals and 164 Nepalis who went with tourists are also out of contact. According to the report, around 900 people working in hydropower projects, three in Langtang National Park, three in quarantine office, seven people’s representatives, 32 employees of local levels and subordinate employees and one teacher of private schools are out of contact.

A total of 21,402 security personnel including Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force Nepal have been deployed in the flood-hit areas, according to NRA Spokesperson Shanti Mahat. A total of 7,912 security personnel from Nepal Police, 9,287 from Nepal Army and 4,203 from Armed Police Force have been mobilized for search and rescue operation.

More than 5,000 treatment

According to the NRA, 5,135 people have been treated so far in the flood-affected areas. A total of 301 people have received medical treatment from various hospitals, 3,206 from the Nepal Army and 1,628 from the Armed Police Force Nepal.

Currently, 3,948 people are kept in the holding center, according to the authority. The death toll due to the floods has reached 1,252 so far.

According to NAA Spokesperson Mahat, 127 dead bodies were recovered in Rasuwa, 177 in Nuwakot, 60 in Dhading, 69 in Gorkha, 218 in Nawalparasi East, 208 in Nawalparasi West, 38 in Tanahun and 355 in Chitwan.

High priority for air rescue

Air rescue is being conducted with high priority to deliver rescue and relief materials to remote and road-cut areas. So far, 4,091 Nepalis and 273 foreign nationals have been airlifted.

The Nepal Army has so far conducted 715 flights during search and rescue operations. The NAA has conducted 25 flights on Wednesday alone. The private sector has also operated 129 flights so far to support the rescue and relief operations.

The NRA has said that rescue and relief materials are being delivered to the remote areas and the road connectivity has been continued.

The security agencies, local levels and various government and non-government agencies are continuously engaged in rescue, treatment and relief management after the flood in the Bhotekoshi river caused huge loss of life and property at once. The authority has said that more than four thousand people are still missing and their search and rescue have been intensified.
