Kathmandu. The Board members of the Loss and Damage Fund under the United Nations Climate Framework (UNCF) have formally demanded an emergency meeting of the Fund to address the humanitarian and physical crisis caused by the devastating floods and landslides in the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment, 14 boards and alternative members of the group of African Countries, Asia Pacific Region and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) have written a joint letter, calling for a special meeting to provide immediate financial assistance to Nepal.

The letter, addressed to the co-chairs and executive directors of the Fund today, urged them to mobilize resources immediately in view of the loss of lives and displacement and destruction of energy, transport and economic infrastructures caused by the unimaginable climate-induced disaster that occurred in Nepal on August 26.

Earlier, Forest Minister Geeta Chaudhary and Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle had sent a letter to the PADT on August 15 making a formal appeal for immediate emergency assistance. On the basis of this appeal, the representatives of developing countries have expressed their opinion in favor of Nepal.
