Kathmandu. Kulman Ghising, chairman of Ujjyalo Nepal Party, met Prime Minister Balendra Shah today.

According to Ghising, the meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar focused on the issues related to the floods in the Bhotekoshi River and the damage caused by it.TAG_OPEN_div_34

According to him, during the meeting, Prime Minister Shah asked how to rescue the people trapped inside the tunnels of the hydropower project.TAG_OPEN_div_32

Ghising said that he had given a written and oral reply to the government in response to the Prime Minister’s question.TAG_OPEN_div_30

During the meeting, PM Shah said that the issue of the people trapped in the flood-affected hydropower project and its tunnel and the relief to be taken from the project was discussed.TAG_OPEN_div_29

TAG_OPEN_div_27Ghising said in a conversation with the media that the road and bridges leading to the project site have been washed away by the devastating floods and now there is little possibility of transporting JCBs, excavators and drilling machines. He said that there was also a discussion on reconsidering the construction of the hydropower project.

He said that about TAG_OPEN_div_25 235 MW of power generation has been stopped due to the floods and the Prime Minister has been informed about its impact on the national system. He said that about 165 MW of electricity can be resumed within the next one to two months, but the damage to other projects is good.

He said that he has requested the Prime Minister to bring a special relief package and ease the insurance payment to reduce the financial crisis of the private sector promoters.TAG_OPEN_div_23

He said that the process of paying the insurance amount of the flood-damaged projects is very cumbersome and suggested that the government should coordinate to clear it as soon as possible. He demanded that a special package should be announced for interest subsidy or other policy concessions to reduce the financial burden on the projects under construction and in operation.TAG_OPEN_div_21

} He said that he has requested to announce a relief package especially for the private sector hydropower promoters.
